Survey and monitoring constitute the core of my work. As well as having been involved with Site Condition Monitoring at many protected sites in Scotland and England, I have done many 'one-off' surveys for clients as required. One of my biggest projects has been taking part in the county-by-county bryophyte survey of Ireland, culminating in the publication of Rare and Threatened Bryophytes of Ireland. In recent years surveys for small-scale hydro-elecric schemes have become much more prominent, especially as many of these are proposed in areas of outstanding bryological richness. Similarly I am able to do surveys for windfarms, or for any other kind of environmental assessment.
